The Prosperity Gospel is basically when many Church Leaders, Pastors, Ministers, Preachers and Bishops have taken the Gospel and have twisted it so slightly, in order to feed their greed and send their congregation into a poorer class or ever poverty. This in turn makes the congregation focus more on what God can do for them, instead of what they can do for others and most importantly, how they can better serve Christ. This in of itself could possibly send many congregation members and pastors to eternal damnation.
"The love of money is the root of all evil, and those whose hearts are fixed on it turned away from the faith, and have been wounded with unnumbered sorrows." 1 Timothy 6:10
"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:24
What is the Prosperity Gospel?
With the Prosperity Gospel, also known as the “Word of Faith,” the believer is told to use God, whereas the truth of biblical Christianity is just the opposite - God uses the believer. Word of Faith or prosperity theology sees the Holy Spirit as a power to be put to use for whatever the believer wills. The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is a spirit who enables the believer to do God's will. The prosperity gospel movement closely resembles some of the destructive greed sects that infiltrated the early church. Paul and the other apostles were not accommodating to or conciliatory with the false teachers who propagated such heresy. They identified them as dangerous false teachers and urged Christians to avoid them.
The Origins of the Prosperity Gospel . . .
The Prosperity Gospel (originally known as Seed Faith) began as what could be considered a "grift" (scam) that took shape in the early to mid 50s through tent meetings that moved from town to town, and city to city, in a procession of eighteen wheeler trucks. It initially attached itself to the Pentecostal movement who were excited to hear about the advertised claims of miracles that would happen at these tent meetings --- the precursors to the cleaner looking multimillion dollar "healing and miracle" events of today. Many of the early tent meeting miracles apparently involved gags, trickery and, in some cases, the most outrageously colorful fraud. According to news articles archived by the Trinity Foundation, at one Miracle Crusade a casket was brought up to the stage and a supposedly dead woman was resurrected back to life. The performance was apparently so convincing that people in the audience were said to have fainted. Shortly afterwards it was reported that the dead woman was actually a prostitute the minister had been with the night before.
Nothing with that kind of origin could ever be good or be blessed by God in any way. This type of preaching is the most deceiving because it sounds good in theory. I once saw a video of people throwing money at the pulpit of a church, per the pastors instructions. He was clearing making a mockery out of the pulpit and the church. The church is supposed to be the Bride of Christ and people were throwing money at it like it was a stripper or even worse. God help us all.
"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all of them who sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers.... And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." --- Matthew 21: 12-13
The 5 Problems with Prosperity Preachers
1) Every Prosperity Preacher I have heard always preaches a watered down version of the gospel.
2) Their heart and mind is solely about money and they are blinded by the truth so they do not preach the truth.
3) They squeeze every bit of money out of their congregation using guilt tactics that lead a lot of their congregation into poverty.
4) They set a very bad example for Christians because non Christians can see this deception and want no part of Christianity because of it.
5) Basically, they lead their sheep (congregation) to their slaughter and they turn away people who might have been saved.
The Prosperity Gospel in its Most Evil Form
Most prosperity gospel churches are able to hide the deception pretty good, which is why most church members fall for it. However, this video will expose what the properity gospel truly is when this pastor lets it all out for everyone to see. Sadly enough, most of his church members are still blind to his deception and greed.
But, Churches Need Money
They sure do and this is why God calls people to tithe. Now, if a church is humble in size and budget, then the upkeep expenses won't be too costly and tithing should cover it. The problem is some Pastors get greedy and vain and they want to build a glorious church and they state that they want to glorify God with this church. Well, that is great as long as they can afford such a building with their regular tithes. If they have to preach guilt into their congregation for not tithing even more and more and putting their congregation into poverty, then that Church would never glorify God because it is built out of greed and vanity. It is usually much worse than that because while some pastors are stating they want a more "Glorious Church," they are really just wanting to fill their deep pockets.
But, We Are Supposed to Give
Absolutely! You are to give 10% for tithing and then anything above that should go to the needy. If you are giving above that to a pastor/ministry who allows himself a luxurious lifestyle, then you are enabling a greed problem. You are better off taking that money and giving it to programs to help the needy or to missionary programs. Now, if you attend a humble small church with a humble pastor, whom lives a humble lifestyle and he is very good about serving his community, then there is nothing wrong with giving him above and beyond your tithe.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. --- Hebrews 4:12
Most People in the USA Are Poor Now
Churches should be tightening their expense budgets and helping their poor congregation members and not squeezing every single cent out of them. The media is not reporting to us that 1 out of every 4 children are getting some kind of government assistance and 1 out of every 6 adults are getting government assistance . . . in the USA. The number 1 place that should be helping these people are the churches in their communities.
"He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who shuts his eyes will have many curses." - - - Proverbs 28:27
"…the righteous gives and does not hold back." Proverbs 21:26
Pastors Deserve a Good Lifestyle
God definitely wants to bless church leaders. He wants to make sure they eat, have a roof over their head and clothes to wear, just like you and I. A pastor is called to complete servitude to God, to his congregation and to his community. If he has to empty his cabinets to feed the hungry, if he has to empty his closet to clothe the poor, if he has to offer his spare room to the homeless, if he has to offer his bank account, then he must do this and it is what Christ expects according to scripture. Instead, prosperity preachers only feed themselves the finest foods, only clothe themselves with the finest linen, only live in the finest homes and only hoard their money despite what the bible says. This is pure greed and God will not tolerate it . . . period!
"Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you." ---James 5:1
Ok, Then How Should a Pastor Conduct Himself?
Jesus is man's exemplar in all areas of life. 1 Peter 2:21 Man cannot mimic some of Jesus's teachings, such as his originality and offer of forgiveness. However, Preachers must use Jesus example in every aspect of their ministry, lifestyle, etc. 1 Peter 4:11 There must be resident conviction and plainness in their preaching. 2 Cor 3:12 Good and evil must be clearly distinguished and upheld and condemned, respectively. God's word must be defended and errors vigorously exposed. Phil 1:7, 17 Sinners must be pointed to Jesus as the "Lamb of God." John 1:29 Men today must have their allegiance to Christ and his precious truths instead of some denominational creed, political agenda, or social reform as such. Jesus was a Preacher like no other and he spoke the truth without fear or favor. Please watch this life changing video about what kind of preacher Jesus was based on scripture. What would it be like if Jesus was a Pastor in todays church?
